A contact lens exam is not the same as a comprehensive exam. A contact lens exam is necessary to ensure lenses are fitting both eyes properly and that the health of the eyes is not harmed by the contact lenses.
If you wear or want contacts, you need a contact lens exam in addition to a comprehensive eye exam. Our optometrist will evaluate the eye surface, its shape and integrity. Then trial contact lens will be fitted and refined.
A contact lens prescription is very different then an eyeglass prescription. A contact lens is a medical device that must be fitted properly and then options such as daily wear versus three-week longevity, multifocal or toric can be determined.
The patient is instructed on the care and management of their lens. Your doctor will fit you with a trial pair of contacts and have you wear them for a few days. In about a week, you will need to notify our office if the vision and fit are satisfactory.
